Committees decry lack of consultation
24 Oct 2016
Ward Development Committees (WDCs) in the Francistown West constituency say they are not happy about not being consulted about developments taking place in their constituency.
Speaking at a consultative meeting addressed by their Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Ignatius Moswaane last Friday, the constituents said they were expected to simply accept once the developments had been decided and implemented.
Monarch West’s WDC chairperson Ms Shathiso Chakalisa complained that they were not consulted when the new system of paying their allowances through FNB e-wallet services was introduced.
Ms Chakalisa asked for the WDCs to be involved in developments of their constituency because they were the parliament of the local people and knew their problems first hand.
A WDC member from Gerald Estates Ms Stimane Mothootsile also complained that there was shortage of shops in Gerald and pleaded with the MP to attract big supermarkets to the area.
Mr Moswaane pleaded with the stakeholders to work together to develop their constituency and encouraged the stakeholders to form a crime prevention committee to fight crime and a wellness committee to help them deal with wellness issues in their wards.
He also urged them to start fund raising initiatives to raise revenue for their committees. ENDS
