Tsogwane tours Mantenge ruins

Mantenge Conservation Trust in Kalakamati has been commended for preserving rock paintings and a sacred well in the Mantenge hill.
Speaking during tour of Mantenge site on October 21, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane said the trust was not only preserving the place for future generation but also improving the lives of the Kalakamati community.
He said efforts of protecting the site by the community was in line with Vision 2036 pillar of sustainable economic development.
Tati West MP, Biggie Butale thanked the minister for visiting the area.
He said if taken good care of, the place could be used to diversify the economy.
MP Butale said Tati West had a lot of other tourism attraction places such as Ntimbale Dam and Domboshaba ruins that could be developed to boast the economy.
Earlier when briefing the minister, the chairperson of the trust, Elliot Thulaganyo said the trust started running the place in 2008.
He said so far the area received financial assistance from GEF and the government through the Social and Community Development office.
He said the trust source income from visitor’s entrance fee, appealing to the Minister to help market the place. ENDS
