Mandaza redeems Rollers

24 Oct 2016

Township Rollers finally have something to celebrate after their Zimbabwean striker Terrence Mandaza humiliated Jwaneng Galaxy with a brace to a goal in a BTC Premiership game played in Jwaneng on October 22.
In the wake of both teams’ draws from previous games, the 2015/16 season champions fought like a wounded lion and became the first to hit the back of the net.
Even though both teams made attempts towards the goal posts several times, it was Mandaza’s first goal in the 14th minute that set the tone of the game.
The Jwaneng side was not to be left behind as they had several shots targeting Kabelo Dambe’s territory, most of which flew above goal posts.
However, Popa’s celebration was not long-lived as Moris Ruzivo equalised hardly 13 minutes later, following well calculated short passes in front of the goal posts.
Ruzivo and his team proved to be a tough nut to crack, until Tshepo Motlhabankwe faked a foul inside the box and got a yellow card.
The game went for a break tied at a goal each.
After recess, both teams continued fighting to take the lead, but it was Mandaza who rescued his team a few minutes into the second stanza. He was finishing from a left wing pass by the pint-sized Edwin Moalosi who came in as substitute.
Rollers’ second goal put more pressure on their hosts and they were cautioned for fouls, one of which resulted in a dangerous-looking free kick just outside the box. However, Anthony Gouws managed to whisk it away.
Even though they did not manage to tame the former champions, Jwaneng Galaxy proved to be not a walk in the park.
Also, Rollers’ Senegal national Pape Ndaw could not help change the scoreboard and the game ended at 2-1 to Rollers.
In a post-match interview, Township Rollers coach, Mark Harrison said even though his team made several mistakes, he was hopeful that they would improve with time.
Harrison said despite disappointing moments, they managed to motivate players and at the end won the game.
On the other hand, Jwaneng Galaxy assistant coach, Michael Mogaladi said everything went according to plan, but had defensive errors that cost them the game. Mogaladi said they would, however, keep working on their mistakes until they had perfected their game plan. ENDS
