Khama visits victims

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, yesterday, visited families affected by lthe recent hailstorm in Tlokweng and some parts of Gaborone.

The storm left some residents roofless and also affected Botswana Power Corporation infrastructure thereby disrupting power supply.

President Khama donated four blankets to a family whose makeshift house was submerged in water

In Tlokweng, 54 families at Lesetlheng and Sefokeng wards were affected.vSome victims were accommodated in tents at the community hall.  They also received food baskets.
President Khama appreciated assistance given to the victims, noting that nobody incurred injuries.

Senior Private Secretary to the President, Brigadier George Tlhalerwa, said the visit gave the President an opportunity to get first-hand information and acknowledge magnitude of the damage.

He said the national disaster and district commissioner’s offices would handle the disaster.
Gaborone district officer, Mr Lesang Kgomoetsile, said they had registered 94 affected families in Gaborone West, Bontleng and Old Naledi.

He said said the needy and orphans would be assisted with the re-roofing of their houses. ENDS
