Kgosi Chama Montshiwa of Monarch Customary Court has complained of high usage of marijuana by youth in his area.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane, Kgosi Chama said youth were dealing in marijuana in the streets.
She cautioned parents to stop selling marijuana to students because they were ruining their future and urged them to take care of the children and not let them roam the streets at night because they end up engaging in criminal activities.
Ms Rosinah Lekgaba complained of lack of involvement by community members, which resulted in lack of progress in community developments and further complained of lack of streets lights and guard room in their kgotla.
She complained of the pending Monarch West community playground, saying it had to be concluded because it was meant for the youth for recreational activities.
Mr Moswaane updated the residents about the Economic Stimulus Projects (ESP), noting they were progressing well and they were going to build few houses for public officers.
Mr Moswaane urged the residents to be self-reliant and not depend on Ipelegeng programme, which could end at any time.
He cautioned them to have plans that they could fall back on like bakeries as they were lacking in Monarch.
The MP encouraged those who were unemployed to use government schemes to live, noting they were not taking advantage of government schemes as a few have accessed them.
He condemned the youth for stealing bulbs from streets lights, saying they were destroying their developments in the community and also cautioned parents to warn their children about owning expensive gadgets they could not afford.
Mr Moswaane condemned the parents who sold marijuana to students, saying they should work together to clean up marijuana in their streets.
He also encouraged the youth to use brigades to acquire skills and certificates because everything now requires certificates. ENDS
