National Environmental Fund grant beneficiaries have been implored to demonstrate effective utilisation of grants so that it could have a positive impact on their livelihoods as well as warrant the perpetuation of such a fund.
Acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism Mr Felix Monggae said this at the National Environmental Fund’s awarding and signing ceremony at Tlotlo Conference Centre in Gaborone recently.
Mr Monggae asked the beneficiaries to share the knowledge they gained from training with their board members to ensure that a culture of proper management of natural resources is passed on from generation to generation.
The Fund approved projects to the tune of P12.4 million across the country with Kgosi Sechele 1 Museum Trust being the top beneficiary with P5.5 million followed by University of Botswana on behalf of BORAVAST Trust and Kgetsi Ya Tsie Trust going home with P412 714.50, whilst Kalahari Conservation Trust took home P2.8 million and Tshole Trust got P645 125.
Giving a vote of thanks, one of the beneficiaries from Kgosi Sechele 1 museum, Kgosi Basiamang Garebakwena thanked the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism for ensuring realisation of their long term dream as a conservation organisation.
“I just want to assure you that we are going to use this money responsibly,” he said. ENDS
