Youth people share notes
20 Oct 2016
An official in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development says it is important for youth engaged in different government programmes to share ideas that can improve their performance in the workplace.
Speaking during the youth empowerment meeting October 18, principal youth officer in the local government ministry, Ms Masego Madimabe said the workshop aimed at sharing ideas on good behaviour, dressing for work, communication and for them to understand the culture of an organisation they worked for.
The workshop brought together youth from various programmes that included Internship, Tirelo Setshaba, Government Volunteer Scheme and those on temporary employment under the Ministry to share ideas and learn from entrepreneurs.
Ms Madimabe youth were guided by guidelines of the programme and those of public service, adding that the programme existed to build youth.
“The workshop also engaged youth on the need to take responsibility of their destiny and to create awareness of socio aspects especially how to network and to hear their views and progression in their work place and their daily life,” she said.
When sharing with the youth on personal branding Mr Mandela Johannes said personal branding was the process of self-expression to others, the process of communicating one’s self, image, knowledge, concept, own message to others that includes one’s identity, ones attitude and appearance, character, effect and ones affect.
Mr Johannes encouraged youth to know that each one of them was a brand and what they did to build that brand mattered a lot and how much price each individual is willing to pay to build an outstanding self.
He urged the youth to ask themselves questions such as what is it about one’s self that stand out, how does one like to be known, why should one be hired, why should one lead and why should anyone relate to oneself.
He said it was important for youth to understand who they really are, where they come from, where they are now, why are they there and where they are going.
He noted that there is no success without vision hence youth should build a strong brand, have vision and set goals to pursue them. ENDS
