Scuba divers retrieved the body of a man who drowned in Gaborone Dam yesterday.
Two men had gone fishing on Wednesday (October 19) when a homemade canoe they were using capsized. One managed to swim to the shore while another drowned.
The survivor reported the incident to Old Naledi police station. The deceased’s body was retrieved with the help of Botswana Police Service and BDF scuba divers after an all-day extensive search.
In an interview, Old Naledi station commander, Superintendent King Tshebo said such incidents were a concern, adding that people who went into such huge amounts of water should have basic swimming skills.
He stated that it was illegal to fish at Gaborone Dam, adding that people should seek permission to access the dam. Ends
