Agriculture needs concerted efforts-Molale

Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale, has said agriculture sector is among those sectors that is faced with various challenges and it needs effective and vibrant extensive services that would improve agricultural productivity.
Officiating during the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s taking services to the people event in Hebron on October 18, he said agriculture is a source of food, for every household, and when practised properly, there would be reduction of people living in poverty and extreme hunger.
He said many  farmers were   small-scale farmers who typically need continued assistance in capacity building to commercialise agriculture that would in future improve the country’s economy.
Mr Molale said through proper coordination and uptake of government programmes by the residents, the country would be able to prosper in its accomplishments.
He also encouraged farmers to prepare for the upcoming ploughing season and further urged those who do not plough their fields to lease them to others who have interest in ploughing to avoid fields idling without being utilised.
On other issues, he implored public servants to meet with the public on regular basis to inform and educate them about government programmes for the benefit of uplifting their lives and improving the country’s food security status.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, senior chief representative, Mompati Marumoloa implored residents to prepare for the upcoming ploughing season.
He encouraged them to adopt new methods of farming that would improve food security in the country.
When giving the objectives of the day, Southern district agricultural coordinator, Ms Monia Mfolwe, said they intend to bring services closer to the public for them to get a better understanding of their ministry’s mandate.
She further said they would offer skills and ideas that farmers could adopt to help them improve their way of farming.
In his closing remarks, Member of Parliament for Good Hope-Mabule constituency, Kgosi Lotlamamoreeng II lauded MOA delegates for their efforts to impart significant knowledge to farmers before the beginning of the new ploughing season.
He implored residents to look after their animals after the ploughing season and also farmers to fence their fields. ENDS
