Love for fashion culture drives designer

Passion, resilience and creativity has catapulted a youthful fashion designer to greater heights.
Kesaobaka Kemolatlhe of Kay Gear Fashion designs who was born and bred in Mahalapye but grew up in Lobatse, where he pursued his dream until turning it into a reality told BOPA that he started the business in 2013, a brand that offers an assortment of clothes depending on customers’ needs and choice.
He said in most of his designs he is inspired by African culture and kinfolks to come up with brilliant manifolds originalities.
Kesaobaka said he sponsored himself when he started the brand, adding that he was driven by the love for fashion to break into the industry.
“Fashion to me is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories makeup and body. It is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which a person dresses or rather a popular or the latest style of clothing, hair, decoration, or behavior,” he said.
He said fashion is the prevailing trend of styles and the newest creations of textile designers, adding because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the term “fashion”, the use of the latter has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress.
He said the business is doing well and looking forward to have a broader base of clientele.
High rentals, he noted are some of the stumbling blocks to grow his business, but his designs are continuing to make a mark at Miss Africa, Miss Heritage Botswana, Miss Botho University and Presidential competitions fashion show.
He said in marketing his products he went as far as Tanzania where he had an opportunity to showcase his ingenuity at Swahili fashion show. ENDS
