PSP donates to schools

Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP), Mr Carter Morupisi, has donated tablets and blankets to teachers and needy people of Matlhakola, Moeng, Majwaneng and Gootau.
Handing over the donation on October 14, Mr Morupisi said he was doing so in support of President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s appeal for the nation to help less privileged members of the community.
He said the blankets and tablets were donated by the Embassy of China and Huawei Technology Botswana.
He said his office took the initiave to appeal to all stakeholders including the private sector to help give under privileged members of the community a dignified life.
A total of 75 people who included the needy, the elderly and people living with disability benefited from this gesture.
Schools that did well in the 2015 PSLE examinations, Moeng, Molebatsi and Goo-Tau primary schools received 75 tablets.
Mr Morupisi said a lot had to be done to improve academic results in the area, noting that it was worrisome that the results were deteriorating annually.
He appealed to parents to join hands with teachers in the upbringing and moulding of their children, adding that without their support this would not be achieved.
He appealed to other schools in the area to pull up their socks so that they too could be recognised for their good work.
He said Huawei Technology had partnered with his office to donate to schools that performed well in the Tswapong area annually.
He also promised Matlhakola kgotla a computer and printer as well as an air conditioner for Gootau kgotla.
Mr Morupisi also promised donations towards the standard seven and reception classes graduations.
Forty tablets were awarded to teachers while standard seven pupils received t-shirts, school bags and P100 for the job well done.
For his part, director of political section from the Embassy of China Mr Tang Shenping thanked the Office of the President for partnering with the embassy.
He said this donation was another testimony of close cooperation in education and deep friendship between China and Botswana.
Huawei sales and marketing manager, Ms Natasha Monnaatlala also thanked Office of the President for allowing Huawei to help bridge the digital divide and contribute to local education in the country.ENDS
