18 Oct 2016
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has applauded youth contractors engaged to carryout Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) projects.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Kalakamati on October 17, Mr Tsogwane said the contractors were doing well because most of them had completed projects within the expected date.
He said, in the North East District, the contractors were engaged to carryout projects in Mambo and Senyawe and they completed in the expected completion date.
Minister Tsogwane said youth contractors were engaged by his ministry to carry out 30 kgotla buildings under the ESP.
On other issues, the minister told the residents about the Children’s Act of 2009, saying it called for collective efforts in protecting the children’s rights.
He said to protect children’s rights, there was need for every village to work with the social workers towards formation of children’s committees that reported to the district consultative forum and the national children’s council.
Mr Tsogwane implored the office of the district commissioner and the council to ensure that such committees were formed and fully functional.
One resident, Mr Mbai Mbai complained about lack of road signs along the Sebina/Masunga road.
Mr Mbai said the only signs on the road were the ones that indicated 80km as the speed limit but there were no signs to warn drivers about cattle.
He further complained about the poor storm water drainage on the same road.
Mr Gift Boitshepo complained about the active involvement of some VDC members in politics.
He also raised a concern about children who walked about seven kilometres to and from school to Maenjane junior secondary daily.
Ms Mpilo Tshupoeng thanked the government for ESP and the implementation of the Children’s Act.
Mr Roy Mbai appealed to the government to purchase some freehold farms around their village to be used as community grazing areas. ENDS
