Annual Mr and Miss Bakgalagari next month

18 Oct 2016

One of the pioneers of the Mr and Miss Bakgalagari pageant, Segolame Kodumedi promises a bigger and better pageant this time around.

The pageant, which is on its second year will be held in Gabane on November 11-13.

Even though the initial event was not as successful as they had wished, due to challenges that befell the area due to the Matsha incident last year, Koduemdi said in an interview that this year’s event would be better.

She said the event, which would draw representation from the main regions that were inhabited by Bakgalagadi such as Kgalagadi, Ghanzi, Kweneng West and Ngwaketse West, would be characterised by various activities such as music entertainment and the beauty pageant itself as the main attraction. Kodumedi said the concept was formed with the aim of bringing all Bakgalagadi groups together under one roof to share on issues of common interests.

She was however quick to point out that it does not discriminate the non-Bakgalagadi speakers that want to take part.

“Such common interests that will be discussed include unearthing the talent in areas such as music and fashion. We also want to create awareness against alcohol abuse as well as sensitise the youth about road safety and diseases such as HIV/AIDS,” she said. Kodumedi said that the event would also afford Bakgalagadi and other well-wishers an opportunity to have fun and learn about their culture and history.

Artistes expected to perform at the event include the likes of Dedcoh and Desert Music, De Ampo and Senior Buzzer. ENDS
