Technology tracks radioTV content

18 Oct 2016

AFSTEREO Botswana has introduced technology that enables tracking, monitoring and measurement of radio and television content as well as production of market and music insights from broadcast content on all radio and television stations in Botswana.

AFSTEREO Botswana managing director, David Moepeng said the system uses a US-patented radio and television monitoring technology, engineered by Media Monitors, USA to listen to top-rated radio and television stations in major markets.

Moepeng said this at a press conference organised to update the journalists about the mandate of AFSTEREO. “This brings a new way of dealing with radio for the advertisers and artists and also assists them to track if their advertisements and songs have aired in the radio.”

“We have compliance certification reconciliations of the media campaigns service, which is able to check whether the adverts that companies pays for, have been aired according to their order of confirmation or as sent by the media owner. This includes spots, opening and closing, billboards as well as features or sponsorships,” he said.

Presently, he said the company remains the only one in Botswana, which is able to audit the live reads of all the radio stations in Botswana, including Botswana Television and eBotswana. adding He said there were plans to relocate the data centre in Midrand, South Africa to Botswana early next year.

“Our chat is most accurate because it takes the presenter’s discretion, station’s discretions’ request in measuring the popularity of music,” he said.

He said it could also perform as a competitive data, providing specific competitor analysis of radio and television, and commercial plays with spend and audience insights.

“The system does customised reports and Bespoke intelligence as specified by the client's requirements.”

“In terms of advertising, the technology focuses on pre-recorded and non-pre-recorded, it does broadcast audit as well as generic market intelligence insights to make marketers make informed decisions,” he said.

Moepeng said their insights showed trends as clients were entrusted in knowing what the competitors were doing so as they could position themselves better or make informed decisions.

AFSTEREO Botswana also revealed the Top 50 Songs list on all Botswana radio stations played on September 1-30

He further revealed the local against international music ariplay patterns.

“97.8 per cent by RB1, 90.7 per cent by RB2, 65.5 per cent by Yarona FM, 51.6 per cent by Duma FM and 29.4 per cent by Gabz FM,” he said. ENDS
