Mohembo bridge addresses Okavango needs

17 Oct 2016

Construction of a bridge across the Okavango River at Mohembo is an indication that the ruling party takes note of needs of the Okavango constituents.
Speaking at a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) rally in Seronga on October 16, the Vice President, Mr Mogweetsi Masisi, said the project was a sign of love towards people in the area.
Mr Masisi, also BDP chairperson, said Mohembo bridge would be the most beautiful and amazing bridge the country has ever had.
It would become yet another feature worthy of tourists attention with several business opportunities anticipated.
He said the ruling party always had the desire to develop the Okavango constituency, hence the decision to divert the initial plan to construct a hospital in Moshupa to expansion of Shakawe Clinic into a primary hospital.
“The need for a better health facility in the area was huge. So I voted with those calling for a hospital in Shakawe particularly because the area is infested with wild and dangerous animals,” Mr Masisi said.
Furthermore, the VP argued that the villages in the area were distant from each other and coupled with common floods, Shakawe’s need for a bigger hospital was greater than that of Moshupa, where he is an MP.
The purpose of the political rally was to celebrate the area councillor’s success in the 2014 general elections.
“We all have a reason to celebrate because generally, all Batswana have various levels of education and poverty is being tackled head-on through special food packages for the less privileged,” he said.
The VP also applauded the MP for Okavango, Mr Bagalatia Arone, for deciding to defect to the BDP saying it showed that he followed his inner voice.
He encouraged party followers not to discriminate against each other saying they should instead have a heart to help one another and by extension the country.
He promised Seronga residents a visit as per Kgosi Bayei Maeze’s request during his welcome remarks.
MP Arone said he did not regret his decision to join BDP and that his interests were mainly for development of the Okavango and its people.
Chairperson of the Okavango Sub-district Counncil, Mr Anderson Mbaha assured the VP that they were doing everything they could to take all the wards in the Okavango constituency.
He said their campaign had seen them conducting education programmes in every ward. ends
