CAAB submits corrective plan
31 May 2013
The Civil Aviation Authority Botswana (CAAB) has submitted a corrective action plan to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) with an estimated completion date of October 2013. This would be to address the Significant Safety Concerns (SSCs),
A news release from CAAB states that the corrective action plan entails, inter alia, re-certifying all air operators in accordance with the Civil Aviation (Air Operator Certification and Administration) Regulations of 2013 which were published on March 8.
The release says in addition, CAAB will conduct a comprehensive structured review of all major modifications and major repairs embodied on Botswana registered aircraft to ensure compliance with associated civil aviation regulations of Botswana and ICAO provisions.
It also states that in both recertification and review and approval of modifications and repairs, CAAB is in close consultations with and provides guidance to all affected air operators and was pleased with their cooperation.
“These consultations and cooperation are critical to the earliest resolution of the SSC,” the statement reads. CAAB, as an aviation regulator in Botswana, is currently working around the clock to correct the two significant safety concerns on Botswana.
Furthermore, the release says there has been significant improvement in Botswana’s rating which was at 59.6 per cent of effective implementation in 2013 as compared to 27.8 per cent in 2006.
