Speakers at the funeral of Kgosi Kgakanyane Sebina described him as a people’s person who treated everybody with affection and botho.
Retired headman of records for Sebina, Kgosi Bonyongo Masalila, said him and Kgosi Sebina started school together at the African school now Nyangabgwe Primary School in Francistown where they did their sub A and B in 1948.
He said Kgosi Sebina left to do his standard six in Cape Town in 1949 where he later worked until 1959.
Upon his return, their friendship blossomed once again until they began working together under the tribal administration authority with Kgosi Sebina having joined the service in November 1981 being the sub tribal authority, the post he held until he retired on September 29 this year.
Being colleagues and friends, Kgosi Masalila said it made their work easier in the office as they related well and could share ideas on how best they could tackle issues and resolve them amicably.
Kgosi Sebina’s eldest son Mr Shato Sebina said the kgosi’s children had grown up to be independent persons because of the discipline and guidance their father instilled on them.
He said they were close knit family who appreciated the support they got from other people either their relatives or the community because of the foundation their father set for them.
Kgosi Topo Sebina of Sebina ward in Serowe said the late kgosi deserved to be celebrated than being mourned for the work he did during his time as leader. As young dikgosi, despite the distance from Sebina to Serowe, Kgosi Sebina would make a trip to Serowe to guide them where there was need to do.
“Kgosi Sebina paved the way for us and we shall always rely on the advice he gave us at any given platform,” he said.
For his part, Member of Parliament for Shashe West, Mr Fidelis Molao said it was now upon the people of Sebina to find another pillar whom they would lean upon in time of need, noting that Kgosi Sebina had set the road for them and as such it was upon them to follow it and even make new improvements on it to their village to greater heights.
He said no one would do the work for them and therefore they should continue the legacy for their late leader and come together and work for themselves.
Kgosi Sebina died on October 3 from a short illness and is survived by 15 children, 37 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. ENDS
