The Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya has commended OLDM for its commitment to community upliftment and bringing change in areas that need it most through funding of projects.
Minister Goya said on October 14 during Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) official opening of classrooms and administration blocks for Mokobaxane Primary School.
OLDM invested over P2. 4 million in the development of classrooms and an administration block for the school.
The project he said was another step towards developing sustainable and innovative partnerships with the private sector aimed at satisfying unmet demands for quality education.
Government as the overall custodian of education he said could not do it alone imploring other organisations that were yet to join efforts to do so.
Mr Goya said it was critical to make investments that have a lasting impact on the livelihoods of beneficiaries and that of the community as a whole.
The classrooms and administration blocks for Mokobaxane primary school he said would go a long way in helping shape the education of future leaders.
Mr Goya commended Debswana for heeding government’s call through innovative private partnerships in education through Adopt a School programme.
The company human resources manager, Ms Lebole Mokoto said in 2013 Debswana-OLDM responded to government’s call for public - private partnerships in education by adopting Mokobaxane primary school.
The partnership resulted in Debswana investing over P2,4 million in development of infrastructure such as classrooms and administration block for the school.
Ms Mokoto said scope of work entailed construction of a one by three face brick classroom block with acoustic folding partitions to enable it to be used as a multi- purpose hall as and when required.
The project also included construction of combined library and administration office block as much as associated site works and services with gross floor area of 230 square metres.
In addition, OLDM she said has indeed made Mokobaxane primary school part of their own in an endeavour to improve PSLE results in the school.
Ms Mokoto noted that through commitment OLDM hopes to derive a sense of satisfaction and benefit from improved performance from both teachers and pupils of the school. ENDS
