BTC marathon for good course

The mayor of Francistown, Sylvia Muzila, has welcomed Botswana Telecommunications Cooporation (BTC) marathon, which was held on October 16.
She said the race was in line Francistown’s vision since it brought tourism and business together.
She said the race was not only business oriented but part of recreation activities.
Muzila also appreciated athletes who participated, adding she was happy with the turnout of women who participated in the race and showed their determination.
In an interview, the BTC Charity Foundation chairperson, Michael Mothobi said the purpose of the race was to address social issues.
He said the funds raised would be allocated to different charities including the orphans, elderly and the needy. Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Kago Ramokate said they supported initiatives such as marathons because they promoted fitness levels.
He encouraged participants to continue training for fitness and not only for marathon competitions.
In the 10km race for women, Kakale Bontse walked away with P5 000 as the winner and Botho Marupe, who was in second position got P4 000 whereas in the men’s race, Tholego Keitshekile received P5 000 and Otlaadisa Segosebe came position two.
As for the 21km race for women, Kefilwe Galeitsiwe scooped P7 000 for position one.
She stated that she was happy with the results since it was the first time she entered a race this year after she took a break in 2014.
Geleitsiwe said the race was going to prepare her for the upcoming cross country.
Kaelo Mosalagae won the men’s 10km race and walked away with P7 000 and said he was happy with the results and race because it gave him competition and the route directions were very clear.
In the 42km race, Khumoetsile Mae won the women’s race while Boiphemelo Selagaboy won it in the men’s category and both got P10 000.
Mae said she was happy with her position because it was her first time running 42km and emerged the winner of the race.
Vice president of Botswana Athletes Association (BAA) Glody Dube said he was happy with the race and stated that starting next year; all races were to be registered for BAA to give clearance. ENDS
