Kanye-Mmamashia pipe 60 per cent complete

16 Oct 2016

The Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo has reassured residents of Thamaga that the era of dry-taps and shortage of water is fast fading as the Kanye-Mmamashia North-South Carrier pipe connection was at 60 per cent completion.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Mabeo confirmed that the construction project of a 70-100 cm3 reservoir which began in 2014 was billed to be complete next year.
He said the project would yield great results for the Thamaga community even during construction as it creates employment.
He said the reservoir was a permanent solution to the long problem of insufficient water supply around Thamaga which was due to low and high altitudes of the village landscape.
Mr Mabeo said the reservoir would be filled with water from the Kanye-Mmamashia NSC pipe connection which carries water from Mmamashia to Kanye.
He further explained that the pipes used were durable and much bigger to allow for quicker flow of water to fill-up the reservoir.
Furthermore, Mr Mabeo attested that the reservoir would mark an end of deliberate vandalism of pipes by some farmers to give water to their livestock, as the pipes were underground and strong.
He also highlighted that since the reservoir would be supplying the entire village adequately, the problem of water shortage at Letlole Secondary School which has prolonged for over five years would seize.
The anticipation is that once the water problem is sorted, education results and productivity would improve at Letlole Secondary School and parents would be able to monitor their children’s movements efficiently.
Further deliberating on the expected positive outcomes of the project, Mr Mabeo cited that residents would be able to develop their plots, either for residential or business purposes.
“The business sector has suffered great losses due to water problems and I’m glad that this project will lure business into Thamaga” Mr Mabeo said.
He pointed out that the hopes of many lives were pinned on the completion of the reservoir as it would also resuscitate and enhance backyard gardening projects that had collapsed due to shortage of water.
“Water is a source of life, without which there is no life,” Mr Mabeo alluded as he went on to speak about the anticipated improvements in the health service provision and household cleanliness.
In addition, Mr Mabeo reminisced that previously, Thamaga was supplied with water from Gaotlhobogwe boreholes, but that the arrangement presented challenges such as when there were power-cuts or load shedding, low-to no pressure and subsequently insufficient water supply. ENDS
