16 Oct 2016

Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Alfred Madigele is of the view that despite the country’s tremendous achievements, there is still room for improvement.
Dr Madigele, who is also a Member of Parliament for Mmathethe-Molapowabojang said during a kgotla meeting in Lorwana on October 13 that his area of jurisdiction was wrestling with challenges of unserviced land, water shortages, unemployment and undeveloped roads.
He said the new Vision 2036 spells out that Botswana needs to be economically sound and developed, noting necessary skills are needed for the country to attain the vision’s aspirations.
Dr Madigele told residents that an Environmental Impact Assessment study (EIAS) for the construction of Gathwane - Good Hope road to be executed under Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) was in progress.
He is optimistic that the EIAS will be complete in a few months, after which necessary procedures and steps will be followed in awarding the project to companies.
He however explained that the Lorwana - Molapowabojang road was not scheduled to be constructed under ESP, noting however that the route is very essential and needs to be incorporated in the next financial year.
Dr Madigele promised residents that the Mmathethe-Metlobo-Molapowabojang road will also be tarred.
He said his request to electrify Lekgware has been successful, and the project is due to start next year.
On other issues, Dr Madigele told the residents that the amendment of the stock theft law was on-going.
He shared with residents that Mosisidi Farms would be electrified to enable farmers to use modern technology to improve production in their farms to ensure food security and job  creation.
For his part, Kgosi Moatlhodi Kgwakgwe spoke of the need for the village to be developed and requested government to consider such through ESP. ENDS
