Project takes shape

Vice chairperson for the committee responsible for the construction of Moshupa kgotla shelter, Mr Baikatlhodi Kesenye, has assured the public that the roofing and finishing touches of the said building would start soon.
When briefing the community recently in a kgotla meeting about the progress of the project that started in 2005, Mr Kesenye said his committee encountered some challenges regarding the project as it was a big one which required a lot of expertise and financial muscle to complete.
He said when roofing was about to commence, they realised that the availed roofing plan was not suitable for the structure, hence the need for modifications that delayed the project.
Mr Kesenye said they then engaged different structural engineers from different organisations to rescue the situation.
He told the meeting that the tender for roofing the kgotla shelter had been awarded and they were awaiting more funds for the project to resume.
He said they currently have P564 000 from pledges, but the roofing structure required P957 000, which means they have a budget deficit of P393 000.
He therefore challenged the community to lend a helping hand to ensure the project is completed within a reasonable time, noting that Batswana are known from time immemorial for the spirit of self-reliance.
Mr Kesenye condemned some community members for spreading disparaging gossip that the kgotla shelter funds had been misappropriated, adding that people should desist from such behaviour as that tarnishes other people’s names.
