Statistics Botswana launches website

11 Oct 2016

Statistics Botswana has launched a service charter and a new website aimed at improving service delivery  to customers.

Speaking at a consultative workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Gaborone on Monday (October 10) statistician general Ms Anna Majelantle said SDGs covered every country not just developing countries unlike Millennium Development Goals.

Sustainable Development Goals are a UN Initiative aimed at transforming the world by 2030 with a set of 17 aspirational Global Goals and 169 targets.

Ms Majelantle stated that the SDGs agenda was broad hence needed stakeholders to work together to achieve them.

She highlighted that consultation among stakeholders was key to ensure that people worked together in developing indicators framework.

She noted that they had realised that some indicators were not achievable and measurable therefore were revised.

Ms Majelantle called for concerted efforts from development partners, civil society, private sector and government ministries for the attainment of the SDGs.

Deputy statistician general Dr Dabilani Buthali noted that the service charter and website would ensure they deliver quality service and respond to customer needs.

He highlighted that Statistics Botswana would be able to provide data electronically through social media and on time.

He said the website would be maintained on time and update data portals content on a monthly basis.

Dr Buthali stated that the website would be available 24 hours seven days a week to provide quality statistics adding that it offered channels for registering complaints on the website.

“It’s a modern and interactive website and I believe it’s a state of the art product that will benefit our customers. ENDS
