Spinners wrap memorable year
10 Oct 2016
Local car spinners put up a memorable last round of the spinning championship in a momentous occasion dubbed ‘Bringing back the Legends’.
The well attended spinning championship was hosted at the spinning palace just behind the showground arena on Saturday. The evergreen Thuto Rasegojwa affectionately known as The Sheriff in spinning circle, wrapped up an impressive round after topping on points accumulated over the last five rounds of spinning.
He was followed closely by Omphile Montsho in his white Altezza and lastly, Mothusi Alfred.
However, on the spinning track it was once again the wizardry of legendary spinners Eddie Rasta that had the crowd blaring into wild raptures.
Eddie shot to stardom at a locally organised spinning championship dubbed Head-to-Head early this year in Mmopane when he thrilled the crowd with his near death experience stunts.
Once again he was on a class act in his vintage modified Ford Stout.
The 42-year-old, Capetonian, real name Eddie Canther performed amazing power slides and crazy flips. At some moments, he climbed on the car’s bonnet while the car was in full swing.
He exited his car through the window during a spin and got back in, something many had witnessed in real-time movie screening.
Other veteran local spinners like Sexton Leepile, popularly known as The General also impressed in his box shaped BMW 325.
The General, one of the local pioneers of the sport which has gained massive popularity from its humble beginnings to its legitimate inception did very well revving the engine to its maximum and performing smoke churning burn out impressing the sellout crowd in the process.
Perhaps the show stopping moment was the freestyle spinning set that included five spinners taking to the stage in a non-rehearsed moment.
They all relied on their deft control of the steering wheel performing snakelike motions and suicide glides.
The lowest moment for the crowd was the non-appearance of Mafikeng based brothers Jean ‘Panjero’ Kruger and Austin Kruger of Team Austin.
Panjero, the youngest spinner in South Africa at only 13 years, became an instant hit with the local spinning fanatics during the Earthquake show in June. ENDS
