Timothy cherishes poetry

Loago Timothy (25) is among youth who do not shy away from exploring their talents.
The Mmathethe born Timothy had an ambition to see his name alongside the best poets in the country.
“I developed the love for poetry when I was at junior school. Back then, I could not even come up with my own stanzas. It was at senior school that I learnt a lot in terms of stanza writing and stage rehearsals to master what I have created”, said Timothy.
The young poet said poems differed according to occasions and the type of object involved. “They should be in balance with the mood of the poet to add value and motivation to the poem so that it can have effect on the audience,” he said.
Timothy also explained the transition that poetry had gone through saying that in the past, poets used to focus on one object or occasion to embrace culture. He cited instances where one would choose to focus on a category of flair such as the village kgosi, something that changed over the years.
Timothy who also doubles as an actor credited his achievements to Raymond Ramorotsi of Ranaka whom he said motivated him to improve and grow.
He said his big achievement was when he scooped position two in presidential arts competitions for the southern region in 2015.
He applauded government for coming up with the competition saying it gave him courage to work hard and be fond of his talent. As the country celebrated 50 years of independence this year, Timothy said he volunteered his talent during different celebrations in his village as a way of embracing his passion for culture. ENDS
