Officials urge brigade students to cast net wider
09 Oct 2016
Madirelo Training and Testing Centre director, Mr Godiramodimo Kalaote has implored Kang Brigade students to study hard and focus on school activities that will enable them to be competitive at global level.
Mr Kalaote, who was speaking during the school’s prize giving ceremony on Friday (October 6), warned the students that if they were not prepared to exist in the modern world, they would be swallowed by globally competitive individuals.
He indicated that multi-national companies that came to Botswana to do multinational Pula projects wanted to employ people competent enough to deliver the job at the quality that matches that of an artisan in China, India, South Africa and Australia among others.
Therefore, he urged students to continuously learn new technologies and stay abreast with the ever changing modern world so that they coulf fit well in the global job market.
‘’Globalisation has made the world so small to an extent that we can no longer hide or prevent its effects from affecting us, therefore there are only two ways; it’s either you prepare yourself for the globalised world or you are left behind’’, he lamented.
Mr Kalaote encouraged those who did not receive some awards to stay positive and set themselves for a greater come back next year. ‘’What has happened to you is just a reality of life where some people will succeed at first attempt and others will succeed later because we have different learning capabilities’’, he said.
Furthermore, Mr Kalaote advised students to be persistent in pursuit of their goals in life while maintaining a certain measure of patience and tolerance.
He told them to never shy away from challenges but rather face them head. ‘’Be bold, courageous and don’t be afraid of fear because it sharpens you, challenges you, makes you stronger; and when you run from fear you also run away from the opportunity to be your best possible self’’, he said.
For his part, Kang Brigade former student and now Principal Technical Assistant at Kang Central Transport Organisation (CTO), advised students to develop innovative mindset so as to avail themselves to many opportunities.
He urged them not to wait for someone else to employ them upon the completion of their studies but rather register and establish some companies while in school.
He further encouraged them to utilise government initiatives upon completion of their studies to better their lives and create employment for others. ENDS
