Housing appeal donates two houses in Dikgonnye
09 Oct 2016
The President’s Housing Appeal on Friday (October 7) donated two three roomed houses at Dikgonnye in the Mochudi West constituency.
Speaking during the official handing over of the house, senior private secretary to the President Brigadier George Tlhalerwa said they had so far donated 58 houses in the Kgatleng District.
Brigadier Tlhalerwa said during one of the visits by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama early this year, the area councillor Ms Reginah Rakgati requested the President to help the less privileged who needed shelter.
He said the initiative was started by President Khama when he saw the need that some Batswana had and asked Batswana to revive the spirit of helping one another to restore their dignity.
He said the same spirit of unity and cooperation prevailed during the 50th anniversary independence celebrations on the 30th September.
He further said the housing appeal has covered the length and breadth of the country and has benefited many families in the process restoring their dignity.
The senior private secretary to the President said they had now donated 687 houses across the country in total and the Appeal Board had the intention to build 700 houses before the end of the year.
Brigadier Tlhalerwa also said they had a target to build 1 000 houses or more before President Khama vacated office on March 31, 2018.
He therefore urged Batswana and companies to come on board and help those who needed housing to live a dignified life.
The recipients of the houses, Ms Mmaonyana Mothibedi and Ms Puna Ditshephe expressed joy and happiness saying they now had better houses compared to the ones they previously owned. ENDS
