Uphold values principles of public service - Moshaga

Southern District Council employees in Kanye have been urged to uphold values and principles of the public service in order to ensure productivity.
The director of Global GNT also a musician, Mr Taolo Moshaga made the request at the employee of the month award in Kanye on Friday (October 7) where he pointed out that knowledge on the values of public services enabled officers to serve the public better.
He thus encouraged officers to adhere to the highest standards of diligence and to do their best by aiming for higher levels of productivity.
“Officers are expected to handle themselves in a manner in line with prescription of the Public Service. As a government employee it means working for the public and having some component of volunteerism, discipline and patriotism,” he said.
He said while the awards aimed at recognising and celebrating the wealth of inspirational individuals, they should continue to display patience and uphold virtues in order to ensure maximum productivity.
Mr Moshaga encouraged officers to act in a good manner saying they represented government, adding that an officer’s conduct should be characterised by courtesy, humility and respect for every person, among others.
A public officer is a servant of the public and should have regard for public interest. They should offer equal treatment to everyone regardless of their status and should be accessible to the public,” he noted.
Furthermore, he said the public was entitled to non-confidential information on the operations of the public service
He also said an officer should be accountable for their performance, success and failures and should be able to admit and correct mistakes.
The transformational speaker further challenged officers to provide services in a continuous manner and that monopoly of information should not be permitted.
He said some of the expectations were that having worked hamonously would be more adaptable to on the job training, having discipline to come to work on time, positive attitude and being able to make a difference in an individual’s life.
However, Chief Human Resources Ms Gobodiwang Taolo said objectives of the day were to recognise and reward work, tie everyday work with organisational mission, vision and goals and values.
The awards winners are as follows, at Human Resources Section Ms Motlalepula Finkie, Finance Department Ms Onnalenna Rantshipi, Buildings was Mr Akanyang Tlhomela, Internal Audit Ms Winnie Ramolefe and S&CD was Mr Ogoditsemang Seleme. ENDS
