Maele urges officers to utilise scheme

 Public officers on D4 and below salary scales have been urged to apply for Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) loan to develop their plots and improve homes.
Addressing a kgotla meeting at Mokungwane in Tswapong on Tuesday, Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Prince Maele, said residents should encourage their children to improve their residential plots or improve their homes through SHHA.
He said   government came up with this initiative to assist public officers on the said salary scales to own houses.
He said through SHHA, public officers could apply for turnkey or home improvement to the tune of P90 000 and P60 000 respectively payable in 20 years at zero interest.
He said the SHHA progrmme for public officers started in August.
Furthermore, Mr Maele who is also MP for Lerala/Maunatlala constituency informed residents about the Tenant Purchase Scheme, which he said was re-introduced after the being stopped by Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) for many years. He said the scheme gives people who have rented BHC houses the opportunity to own those them.
He also said the government introduced Public Officers Housing Initiative where public officers would be given an opportunity to buy houses built by government and rent them to government departments.
He said the first batch of 25 houses was being constructed in Machaneng through the Economic Stimulus Programme.
For their part residents of Mokungwane commended Mr Maele for hard work adding that issues of land management particularly plot allocations were much better than before.
The residents called for maintenance of standpipes that were not working in their village, to increase access to water. ENDS
