For a long time she has been known in the music industry, but Anafiki never recorded an album until a good samaritan decided to help her.
She recently launched her six-track debut album dubbed Dithapelo tsa ga Anafiki, thanks to Roma nna Association chairperson, Gase Sikwa.
Anafiki is no stranger to music in this country. Music lovers are aware of her popular song, Mpolelela re Babedi.
It has been on the air waves for a while.
The new gospel album has songs such as Calvary, Halleluya, Pheko e e phedisang, Tshegofatso Morena, O na le nna and Fodisa calvary.
The album is collaboration between Anafiki and Nkagisang also known as Shortman.
Speaking at the launch, Speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Kokorwe said Anafiki was a special woman who persevered, despite being born without sight.
She said Anafiki was a living proof that disability was not inability.
“My message to those who are living with disability is that they should emulate Anafiki and tap on their God given talents,” said Kokorwe.
Sikwa said he first heard of Anafiki’s plight on Radio Botswana during an interview when the presenter asked of her albums and she said she had none.
He said he learnt that some artists had exploited Anafiki by recording albums with her but failed to pay her.
“Her story was hurtful and touching and I knew I had to do something to help. So with the assistance of some Radio Botswana employees, I was able to locate her in her home village and the rest is history,” said Sikwa.ENDS
