03 Oct 2016
Police in Mochudi have expressed their concern about the increasing number of fatal road accidents in their area.
Speaking in an interview recently, station commander, Supt Olebile Sitale said 33 people lost their lives this year compared to 13 the whole of last year.
He said this showed that there were problems with the drivers' conduct on the road, hence the need for all road users to exercise caution at all times.
Supt Sitale narrated how, near Boseja Bar in Mochudi, a 48-year-old man was hit by a vehicle that threw him onto the oncoming traffic, causing another driver to also hit him. He later died.
In another accident, Supt Sitale said a driver hit a truck when trying to overtake near Artesia, causing a head-on collision that left a passenger nursing a fractured left thigh.
He appealed to drivers to obey road rules.
On other issues, Supt Sitale expressed worry about increasing cases of obtaining by false pretenses.
He said the police had taken an extensive education campaign to sensitise people about this issue even through Itshireletse TV programme, but it seemed some people had not yet got the message.
Supt Sitale said recently a 23-year-old man was deceived by some people near Shoppers Stores, who said he had been offered a job and made to leave with them his valuables, which included a laptop and cell phone and returned to find them gone.
Supt Sitale said such cases should be brought to the police attention without any delay. ENDS
