Mookane celebrates in style

Mookane residents celebrated Botswana’s Golden Jubilee in style.
They were pampered to a performance by legendary group Mahotella Queens from South Africa.
The group is noted for their distinct vocal harmony sound, guitar-led mbaqanga music and fast-paced stage dancing.
The trio kept people on their toes with their well-known songs like Melodi-ya lla pitseng which was the people’s favorite, Kazet, Lilizela Milizela and many others.
They really kept the crowd busy as they sang along their songs, danced with the children and elders.
In an interview with one of the ‘Queens’ Hilda Tloubatla said they were very pleased to have joined Batswana as they celebrated their 50th anniversary.
She said they were also thankful and humbled by Pinkie Setlalekgosi’s invitation to celebrate with the residents of Mookane.
She advised the youth to stay away from drugs and alcohol abuse and rather engage themselves in different useful things so that they become responsible citizens.
Tloubatla said they are what they were because of the love they receive from Batswana and Africa as a whole.
She also thanked President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and Kgosi Silas Keitumetse for allowing them to celebrate with them.
Other performances of the day were from Mookane local artist TT Da Champion, Breeze, Mookane primary school Scout and polka dance group, Sarafina dance, traditional dance group, poem by Eric Mokane amongst others.
Mookane celebrations were sponsored by amongst other; Setlalekgosi who pledged P1 million towards the celebration.
According to Mookane BOT50 committee chairperson, Boipuso Keitumetse said government also gave them P31 895 to spend during the celebration. Ends
