Matjimenyenga thump Tango boys

02 Oct 2016

Tafic recorded a 3-0 win over Tasc in the BOT50 final in Francistown on Friday evening.

Both teams reached the finals by winning their semi-finals with the same margin of 2 -1, with Tafic brushing aside Sladden Eagles while Tasc won against Eleven Angels.

On Friday, Matchimenyenga claimed victory over the Tango boys thanks to a brace by Mbatshi Machongo and one goal by Kemoreng Batisani.

Machongo sealed an impressive come back for Blessing Moyo’s team and enabled Matchimenyenga to go home P10 000 richer as the first prize money.

Tafic started the game in the first half under pressure with Tasc firing from all cylinders in a bid to find a goal, but Matchimenyenga returned more determined for a win in the second half.

Tasc’s perfect start did not bear fruit.
They were derailed by Tafic’s striking of the net thrice in the second half.

It looked like under coach Mmoloki Masole’ charges took instructions accordingly from the dressing room at half time before Machongo took control to inspire his side to a successive cup victory.

Batisani scored Tafic's first goal in the 66th minute in a left-footed shot from range before the terrorizing Machongo increased the score to make it 2-0 in the 83rd minute.

Tasc struggled for the entire second half as they kept on chasing shadows of Tafic players as Matchimenyenga enjoyed more of the possession towards the end of the game, denying Tasc to get into contact with the ball.

Tafic defence was looking surprisingly fragile despite Zecco Makafiri, the oldest player’s return to action and made the most of the instability in the middle of the park.
Mbatshi Elias should have netted midway through the first half when he misjudged Molebatsi Kangangwani free kick, but headed off target.

Little was going right for Tasc and Tsaone Maswate was rightly booked by referee for diving into the Tafic penalty area.

Determined Tasc defending kept Tafic at bay for a while, but Tasc cracked at last with four minutes left.

Machongo showed no mercy with a cool finish outside the 18th area to make it 3 – 0 in the 90th minute before four minutes of referees optional time.

Tafic could have made it again in the injury time but the ever-hard working Machongo decided to hit the crossbar.
Both teams made five changes each in the entire 90 minutes to sharpen the game but it worked for Tafic.

"I liked everything today, especially in the 2nd half as we came back more determined to score," Tafic assistant coach Elias Chinyemba told BOPA.

"We pressed them well and when we sat back and set up for the counter we did it well.

We were intense for the 90 minutes against a very hard side and it is one of the best achievements since we are aiming to bounce back to the elite league at the end of 2016/17 season," he said.

For his part, Tasc tactician Masole said losing is always sad but it was a cup final and there was supposed to be a winner at the end.

"You never want to lose. We used these games as pre-season training as we want to return to the elite league next season,” he added.

Meanwhile in the women’s finals, Francistown United buried Coloured Stars by an avalanche of goals, winning 6-1 to pocket P5 000 plus a trophy.
The goals for the winners came from a hat-trick by Kelebogile Magaga, Senji Tebapi, Gomolemo Ramadi and Marea Mukhenge while the consolation for Coloured Stars came from Tsamopino Moarabea.

The runners up of the tournament for both men and women were given P4 500 and P3 500 respectively. Ends
