02 Oct 2016

Botswana is grateful for the support international partners have given the country over the past 50 years of independence.

Briefly proposing a toast during a state luncheon hosted by President Lt Gen.Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi expressed sentiments of gratitude.

Botswana has graduated from being one of the world's poorest, least developed states at independence to being a middle income state, while working in tandem with developmental partners. Dr Venson-Moitoi also thanked the international statesmen and royalty who graced the occasion of Botswana's golden jubilee independence celebrations for their attendance.

The state lunch, held at the University of Botswana Indoor Sports Arena on Independence Day was attended by foreign dignitaries who had come to the country for the 50th independence anniversary celebrations.

Former Presidents Sir Ketumile Masire and Dr Festus Mogae, Cabinet ministers, leading civil servants, captains of industry, and members of the diplomatic corps were among the dignitaries at the state lunch.

The black tie event took place just after the main independence celebrations were held at the National Stadium. Ends
