Dignitaries return home after celebrating with Batswana

Dignitaries from different countries today (September 30) flew back to their respective countries after attending Botswana’s golden jubilee independence celebrations in Gaborone.

The president of Mozambique Mr Filipe Nyusi returned home having arrived in Gaborone yesterday (September 29). The president and his delegation were bid farewell by the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Mr Edwin Batshu at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.

King Letsie III of Lesotho and wife have also returned home as they were seen off at the airport by second president Sir Ketumile Masire and the Minister of Minerals Energy and Water Resources Mr Kitso Mokaila.

Namibia vice president Dr Nickey Iyambo and former president Mr Hifikepunye Pohamba were seen off by the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen.

The Duke of York, Prince Andrew and his delegation also left this afternoon after the independence celebrations. Price Andrew had an opportunity to visit Botswana Meat Commission Francistown abattoir on September 29 while in Botswana.

Some of the dignitaries will depart October 1, while the last batch is expected to leave on October 2. ENDS
