Francistown celebrates

30 Sep 2016

Multitudes of Francistown residents and surrounding areas  gathered at Francistown Sports Complex to celebrate Botswana’s Golden Jubilee on September 30.

Speaking at the celebration ceremony, Francistown mayor Ms Silvia Muzila said the time had arrived for Batswana to revive Independence Day celebrations, which seemed to have diminished over the years instead of growing to greater heights.

Ms Muzila noted that Batswana should understand that they were recognised as a peace loving people by the world because of this day and as such, they should rejoice, be united and proud and celebrate together as the nation every year.

Ms Muzila said in the years after the first Independence Day celebrations, Batswana recognised the day as a historical symbol and that people filled areas of celebrations to capacity like it happened today.

She said they came together as a unit to appreciate the day that brought about the peace and harmony that prevailed over the years.

For his part BOT50 Committee chairperson Mr Keabetswe Bogatsu, said as they celebrated their 50th anniversary it was imperative and relatively important to note that Botswana had and continued to be a United and Proud nation and this shall be embedded in their society beyond 50 years and forever.

Mr Bogatsu  appreciated efforts by all the committee members who actively and whole heartedly participated in the Organisation of all the activities leading to today’s final activity marking Botswana’s 50th Independence anniversary.

He also thanked Francistown artistes who participated in today’s beautifully choreographed activities and wished that the professionalism that  the artists displayed there could be maintained to ensure success in future endeavours.
