The Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has applauded Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) church in Bobonong for playing a role in community building and good upbringing of children.
Speaking during the Northern Sunday School conference in Bobonong recently, he encouraged parents to raise their children under the word of God
Mr Molefhi said by so doing that would reduce social ills such as alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, human trafficking and HIV/AIDS which were becoming a huge concern for the country.
The minister, who is also the MP for Selebi Phikwe East advised youth to use the internet wisely for studying. “Research, learn and avoid cybercrime which is escalating in the country,” he said.
Minister Molefhi stated that children were easily influenced so they constantly need guidance to be good leaders of tomorrow and as a result hailed the church for staging such an event to mould the behaviour of the children.
Minister Molefhi also applauded the Sunday school norm of ploughing back to the community, saying the spirit was the one advocated in one of the Vision 2016 pillars of a compassionate, just and caring nation.
The regional chairperson of AFM Sunday school, Pastor Tshegofatso Ponego said the Sunday school conference started in 1996 with few branches around the country and in 1999 it spread its wings to other church branches.
Pastor Ponego stated that the conference targeted mainly children aged between eight to sixteen years and its main objectives were to teach children from different branches, the importance of church to their personal growth and spirit of togetherness so that they could learn from each other.
He said for the past years, they had been handing gifts to the less privileged through the conference as a sign of a united and proud nation. ENDS
