Lotsane pupils donate to Khurumela

28 Sep 2016

Development Studies (DVS) students from Lotsane Senior Secondary School have donated school uniform to less privileged students at Khurumela Primary School.

As part of their DVS project, form five students identified less privileged students at Khurumela Primand donated to them.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ms Lillian Ndlovu, one of the form five students who contributed to the project said she and other members were able to achieve the project through raising funds which enabled them to buy necessities for the two students they identified.

She said they identified and adopted two beneficiaries in Khurumela primary school after they conducted a needs assessment.

Ms Ndlovu said the beneficiaries were donated full school uniform so that they too are motivated to work hard in school and participate in class activities.

She said the DVS department intends to carry out President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s poverty eradication initiative.

She said as their DVS project was titled “To Develop a child dignity to enhance learning in Khurumela Primary School”, they chose that title because they wanted to improve the quality of academic performances of the two beneficiaries.

Ms Ndlovu said they have chosen to help them so that by the time they complete standard seven they would have improved positive transition rate.

She said another aim of their project was to alleviate poverty and uplift the economic status of the two beneficiaries to ensure that they were in the same level with other students.

The Lotsane Senior Secondary School DVS teacher, Ms Anita Magodi said the DVS department started Adopt a Child Program in 2015 and started with adopting two students of Khurumela Primary until they complete PSLE.

She said the program was initiated to improve the dignity and self-esteem of the two students and improve the quality of students’ transition from primary school to secondary schools.  Ms Magodi said although they wanted to adopt as many students as possible, they were only able to adopt two students due to limited resources.

She said they do not have sponsors to carry out that essential role and they were able to assist the two beneficiaries through raising funds.

Ms Magodi said the project had been a success because of support from Lotsane Senior school teachers and students. ENDS
