28 Sep 2016

Woolworths Botswana has donated clothes worth P900 000 to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The clothes were part of the stock that had been sitting in their warehouse.

When receiving the donation on Tuesday, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said the donation was an indication that Woolworths had Batswana’s interest at heart.

The minister highlighted that she was impressed with the fact that Woolworths were the ones that approached the Gaborone City Council to offer the donation not the other way round.

She commended them for such generosity adding that it was a good gesture that would go a long way in changing many lives.

Ms Tshireletso assured Woolworths that the clothes would go towards the most deserving Batswana who are among the vulnerable groups in remote areas.

“May your generous hands be blessed, we thank everyone who has contributed towards the upliftment of Batswana,” she said. She indicated that nowadays, people care most about themselves rather than helping the needy therefore commended Woolworths for their selflessness.

Woolworths Botswana representative, Mr Thami Ndlovu said as Woolworths there were committed to Corporate Social Responsibility having teamed up with GCC to donate clothes in the past.

He highlighted that they had expanded this gesture to ministerial level so as to reach the rest of the country.

Mr Ndlovu stated that they were committed to the upliftment of the society and this was not the last time they were donating as they had many clothes sitting at the factory.

He noted that as Woolworths they pride themselves with quality and style and creating more employment and uplifting communities through charity work.

He said Woolworths congratulated Botswana for celebrating 50 years of peace and tranquility. ENDS
