Education system needs all on board

26 Sep 2016

Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, says government alone cannot make the education system the best that Batswana wish for.

Speaking at a prize giving ceremony at Kgalemang Motsete Junior Secondary School in Serowe on Saturday, Mr Autlwetse challenged the private sector and stakeholders to help government shape the education system. He advised students that their futures began at their current level and discouraged them from procrastination.

“Life is all about choices. You choose life today and success shall follow you tomorrow,” said Mr Autlwetse, the reward basket unleashed competition in all.

The minister, who is also the area MP, called on all to join forces with teachers for the production of an improved product being a well-rounded student. Mr Kgaimene Mosweu, principal consultant from Elsimate Holdings, called on students who did not win awards never to give up, arguing that, “our greatest weaknesses lie in giving up in adversity.”

For students to achieve their goals, Mr Mosweu encouraged that they desist from regretting on their past academic performances but concentrate on bettering results going forward.

He inculcated into the students the spirit of no surrender warning the learners that they still had time to put their lives in order unlike those who failed in the past and were struggling.

“The only person who can stop you from becoming what God wants you to be it’s you,” said Mr Mosweu, who further warned students and teachers that they could become their own enemies if not careful.

The man who prides himself of breeding leaders and managers said that for there to be success one had to push themselves.

He warned teachers that the teaching process would not happen if they failed to maintain discipline in classrooms.

He also appealed to teachers to inculcate in students behaviours expected in different situations arguing that through their actions and reactions, teachers transmitted messages.

Teachers, Mr Mosweu said, were to exemplify themselves as exhibits and ambassadors of excellence adding that teachers who wanted to know themselves should ‘go to your classes and look at your students.’

In her welcome remarks, school head Ms Josephine Madikwe outlined their ambitious plan to be amongst the top ten best performers in the country despite challenges besieging her school.

Such challenges included students who needed to be pushed in order to complete their projects and unavailability of such amenities as air conditioners at the library and computer labs which renders teaching difficult. ENDS
