Terrence Major and Koketso Gulubane, both 12 years old, have won the first annual title for Mr and Miss Little Independence 2016 respectively, pocketing a prize of P8 000 each at an event that was held at Boipuso Hall recently.
The duo managed to emerge victors, defeating 30 others from across Botswana at the glamorous event, themed, Beauty, Talent, and Culture where contestants displayed their talents in various aspects, including dancing, poetry and singing.
In an interview, Terrence, from Francistown, and standard six student at Borolong Primary School, expressed satisfaction and gratitude to his parents for the support which they always accord to him in everything he does. He said he works with other children where he stays, in imparting the dancing skills as he has realised that he had potential skills in that area.
“I am a dancer in variety of aspects. I am a traditional dancer, also I do athletics and participate in choral music at school,” he said.
For her part, Koketso said she was happy and excited to have won the competition. “I am planning to form my own organisation which will be aimed at maintaining and monitoring the health of young children, the needy and destitute. I also want to encourage the youth to be self-reliant and start their own businesses which will in turn reduce the rate of unemployment,” she said.
CHIPABO founding chairperson and coordinator, Edward Moroka, explained that the idea was developed as they aspired to grow talent amongst the children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
“We wanted to use the opportunity, by utilising the BOT50 and become one of the key players in empowering the young ones,” he said. He thanked Fairgrounds Holdings, Ma Africa Hair Salon, Kids Emporium, Grounded Accessories, Kids Palace, Ma Desert Guest House and Mandy Promotions for their sponsorship into the pageant.
Casper, Mafitlhakgosi, Mmurubele made sterling performances to the audience amusement as a pledge towards the pageant at the grand finale. ENDS
