Bad behaviour affects performance
26 Sep 2016
Madiba Senior Secondary School students have been advised to cease from being involved in bad practices as that affects their studies negatively.
Giving welcome remarks at the school’s prize giving ceremony recently, the school head Mr Ogolotswe Tshupetso complained of students’ ill behavior.
Mr Tshupetso said they are struggling to come out with good results since their students do not fully attend their lessons especially boys and indulge in substance abuse and alcohol.
“We are not happy about the performance of our school for the 2015 BGCSE which is 23 per cent hence the national target stands at 50 per cent’’he said.
He said they are witnessing high numbers of teenage pregnancies as they have recorded 22 cases since last year up to now.
He however lamented overcrowding at the hostels which currently houses 331 students yet the right capacity is 96.
Guest speaker Mr Casmir Ketlhalefile who is also the chairperson of Madiba Class of 93 said their association has vowed to partner with Madiba management to improve academic performance.
Mr Ketlhalefile said even though nowadays life is much easier compared to their times when they had to walk long distances barefooted to school, it is disheartening to see students failing.
He said during their time, Madiba was doing very well despite their challenges and little information they had about the importance of education.
He said it is now time education stakeholders think seriously on how to improve the results because government has strived to better the state of education since independence.
He said ever since they partnered with Madiba they have donated sanitary pads and toiletries, participated in Boot Camp and they have also donated books. They are in the process of adopting the school. ENDS
