Nyangabwe Lions Club donates glasses

26 Sep 2016

As part of BOT50 celebrations, the Nyangabwe Lions Club has donated 38 prescribed glasses to some of Makaleng village’s children.

Makaleng was targeted because of being patrons of the Pelegano Support Group which is a facility that aids the elderly and orphans in the village through a project called ‘Let the children see.’

The president of the Nyangabwe Lions club Mr Dilip Nunes said it gave them a great pleasure to donate to the children as it is expensive to test eyes and acquire prescription glasses in the country.

Mr Dunes said Lions Club worldwide had managed to raise more than a billion Pula to help alleviate sight challenges throughout the world.

He said they were going to continue to better the lives of children and implored the benefactors to also help others as well.

The councillor of Makaleng Mr Mothusi Nakedi said they were grateful to receive such gifts from the Lions Club as they showed love to God.

He said it was a great initiative as the club was exercising the pillar of Vision 2016 of a compassionate, just and caring nation and implored parents to help their children take care of their prescribed glasses.

Ms Dimakatso Leteemane, a parent of one of the benefactors, applauded the club for the donation, saying it was going to help their kids in a great way.

She said the donation would help a lot because children with poor eye sight were affected at school since they are now looking to write their examinations.

Ms Leteemane also said it helped the parents, who could not afford to buy prescription glasses for their kids.

One of the benefactors, a 12-year-old Bokang Nalebomo said the prescribed glasses were going to help improve his sight, help improve reading his school work and watch television. ENDS
