Chilume wins international award

 A Motswana lawyer, Ms Yvonne Chilume has won The International TrustLaw Lawyer of the year 2016 Award in New York, USA.

The annual prestigious award is a brainchild of Thomas Reuters Foundation whose objective is to promote socio-economic progress and the rule of law worldwide.

A news release from Young Africa Botswana Directors states that Ms Chilume was nominated for the award by a NGO Young Africa for her generous pro bono work in assisting them with setting up the trust and establishing footing in Botswana.

The release further states that the Young Africa is a non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands that is 20 years successfully training underprivileged youth to become employable and self-reliant in different Southern African countries.

The release states that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)- International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC) has recommended Young Africa as the best Technical Vocational Education and Training TVET practices.

Young Africa came to Botswana a few months ago at the invitation of the Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture.

Ms Chilume is a private practicing lawyer. She is presently holding the position of treasurer of SADC Lawyers Association and vice chairperson of Law Society of Botswana.

Ms Chilume is a member of Disciplinary Committee of BFA Premier League. She holds membership of Women in Business Association (WIBA). She has a keen interest in business law, real estate (commercial property) and investment. During her acceptance speech, Ms Chilume said she is honored by the recognition of her work and hopes it will contribute to positioning Botswana in the world as a developed democratic country. ENDS
