BOCODOL restores dignity for needy

26 Sep 2016

BOCODOL Kang regional centre has renovated Mr Thepe Lehume’s house, built a latrine, fenced his yard and installed a water tap.

Officially handing over the project to Mr Lehume in Kang on Friday, Kgalagadi North deputy district commissioner, Ms Queen Makobo said she was impressed by efforts made by the community to assist the less fortunate.

She commended Kang BOCODOL saying they restored Mr Lehume’s dignity by providing him with life necessities being shelter and water.

Ms Makobo also said the project came at a time when the nation is in jovial mood for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

“Mr Lehume is the best beneficiary to this cause, he is an elderly who will testify about the country’s developments from his era till present,” she said.

Still on that note, Kang BOCODOL acting regional director Ms Moenyana Seabelo said their initial plan was to build a latrine but upon realising that Mr Lehume had other needs, they decided to broaden the scope.

Ms Seabelo stated that as 2016 comes to an end, Kang BOCODOL wanted to end the year having accomplished one of the vision 2016 pillars of A compassionate, Just and Caring Nation.

She said, “this is our first time doing something like this. We also wanted to be among those who took up the President’s call of giving back to the community to help eradicate poverty.”

Ms Seabelo said the project began in February but they were financially constrained hence the delay to complete the project.

“We also had limited time, we woke up around five every-day and came here, around half six we had to go back and prepare to serve the nation in the office,”she added.

She said although they were faced with several challenges they did not despair but rather soldiered on. She noted that they were offered a helping hand by the Village Development Committee, Kang Quarry, Lorato Hardware and others.

Kang BOCODOL also bought Mr Lehume a bed, chest of drawer and some groceries. Ms Seabelo implored the community to continue assisting him in every way possible.

The beneficiary Mr Lehume could not express his gratitude verbally but rather danced his heart out and on his behalf, his niece Ms Betty Molatlhe said his uncle was over joyous and thankful for the assistance. ENDS
