The Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale recently handed over a 70 year old master-piece to one of Botswana’s pioneers, a woman of many firsts, Dr Gaositwe Chiepe at her residence in Gaborone.
In a surprise visit to Dr Chiepe, who is a former Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Affairs, Minister of Education, among others, Mr Molale said, “I was in Cape-Town, South Africa paging through a magazine when I came across this picture and thought I recognised one of the people in it.
As I looked at the caption, I realised that indeed, the picture was of you.
Pleasantly astonished to find such an old picture of the very young Mme Mma Chiepe, especially in a foreign country, I inevitably got a copy and thought to enlarge it and frame it for you,” much to the delight of Dr Chiepe.
In response, Dr Chiepe said, “I am truly grateful for this and very humbled indeed.
This picture was taken in 1946 and I vividly remember everyone in it. It is such a master-piece. Infact it is my real BOT50 highlight.” Ends
