The Gospel Duo joins music scene
22 Sep 2016
Botswana is surely awash with all sorts of music talent and this ability is yet to be recognised and appreciated by the nation.
Sadly, some of this raw and untapped talent, which can be better exploited for commercial use goes unnoticed.
A gospel group going by the name The Gospel Duo is one such local talent which needs to be nurtured to fully unleash its potential and realise the good that comes with hard work and determination. The two-member group, which started in Lobatse, released a relatively good music album last year but decided to put it inside the drawers, under lock and key for no convincing reasons.
The album is surely a good start for music amateurs like the two ladies whose talent was recognised by their now Awoken music producer and promoter, Ace Mooketsi whom heard them singing from the ground floor of the restaurant they were working for in Lobatse, while he was on the first floor doing various recordings.
The lead singer of the group Neo Dube, who originates from South Africa, but has long nestled in Lobatse, noted with suppressed pride and happiness that her love for singing would suddenly start tormenting her while in the kitchen.
All of a sudden, she said she would bust into a song and her colleague, Winnie Nkoso would join her. Little did they know that upstairs their invading voices were curiously heard by Ace, who has a sense of music in his veins and is proud owner of Melodichorn Studios.
He eventually approached and persuaded them to record an album which they gladly did, but were unable to market it due to work commitments.
Marketing of the eight-track album entitled Tumelo which is also the second song in it will however start in earnest as the studios are relocating.
Listening to the whole album surely one can derive pleasure and soul soothing moment despite that song of the songs in it are familiar.
The catch here, is that the beat and melodies voice arrangement has been done in a way that the songs appear to be a set of new songs, something which has either failed or escaped the attention of some music producers.
The first track Alpha and Omega which is a widely known song is sang in a rather catchy way, while Tumelo, which the twosome admitted as their favourite, has a high tempo and has the effect of arousing a tipsy yuppie to come to the party and join in those glorifying His Mighty God in a good day praying session.
Should one listen to this album during the long Botswana Day holidays, surely the person will not regret it even once. Other songs in the album include Ho lokile, Gae Jerusalema, Kena le modisa, Tshepile wena, We adore you and Re a leboga. Ends
