She said the ceremony also emphasised on teaching residents the benefits of the three Rs which are reducing, recycling and re-use.

She said Botswana should be taken care of in order that the future generation could  have pride in it.

“It is the duty of each and every one of us to take care of our environment. It is high time that we stop saying we are creating employment by littering,” she said.

For his part, Kgosi Donald Rammala said every child should  be taught cleanliness from home so that they would know how to take care of waste to avoid untidying the environment.

In his remarks, town clerk Mr Ivan Makati said the objective of the day was to share information with residents on how to protect the environment, and to encourage them to partake in caring for the environment.

The day also had many activities including exhibition of products which were made from waste such as bottles, plastics and papers. Ends
