Outgoing Kgosi Kitso Kelosiwang of GooMongala ward in Kanye has advised Maisantwa Primary School Standard Seven pupils to have faith in themselves and focus on their studies as their final examinations neared.
Kgosi Kelosiwang said this last weekend during a motivational meeting addressed by the Kanye sub region education office. He explained that it was important for school leavers to manage their time well and develop a healthy spirit of competition amongst themselves, and to ask for assistance from parents or teachers where they had challenges.
He also urged pupils to look up to the successful alumni of the school such as the second president of Botswana, Sir Ketumile Masire and former foreign affairs minister, Mr Archibald Mogwe among others, and draw inspiration from them.
Kgosi Kelosiwang said Mr Mogwe, who happens to be his cousin, worked hard to get an education and ultimately reached the zenith of his career through determination despite the fact that his parents would withdrawn him from school at certain points to herd livestock when he was still young.
He also advised learners to enhance their knowledge of the nation’s history. He said some young people were not keen to learn about the nation’s past.
For his part, the PTA chairperson, Mr Lephatsimile Kwape said the initiative to inspire learners could have had an impact if it had come earlier.
Mr Kwape also encouraged parents to play a role in the education of their children and help teachers mould them into responsible and law abiding future leaders. Ends
