Re Batswana tours Europe
20 Sep 2016
Chinese, Swedish and Germans will have a taste of local music during Botswana's 50th independence celebrations, courtesy of ReBatswana Music Ensemble.
The music ensemble is a colourful, spirited showcase of traditional, folk, afro jazz and modern music and they are booked to perform in the said countries.
The ensemble is collectively led by Lister Boleseng, song bird, Nnunu Ramogotsi, the legendary Ndingo Jowa, Lekofi Sejeso, Chedza Majwabe as the backing singer, Sakkie Nonong on bass, Andrew Chinganga on the saxophone, Kopano Mantswe on percussions and Leroy Nyoni on drums.
Addressing members of the press on Saturday, ReBatswana Ensemble producer, Soares Katumbela said citizens of the three countries are elated firstly to hear ancient Tswana times through Accapella traditional songs, accompanied by clapping and dance, culminating in present day contemporary compositions that honour culturally inspired rhythms and experiences.
He said the origin of the music and cultural exchange tour programme began in 2011 when the producer recognised the need and value in promoting local musicians abroad.
Last year, Rebatswana toured Sweden and Switzerland where they were enthusiastically received. The project objectives are cultural exchange, to give Batswana musicians international exposure, promote local musicians abroad and celebrate Botswana's 50th anniversary with Botswana embassies among others.
The group is billed to perform in Beijing on September 23, and they will do music workshops in Sweden on the 27.
ReBatswana will also have a concert in September 29, still in Sweden and on independence day the group will perform in Berlin, Germany. ENDS
